GRANDFATHERS - Rookery Lane and Rev. Arthur Wood Baptist minister 1888-93
Correspondence between Beryl, the daughter of Rev. Arthur Wood, Baptist minister in Broughton 1888-93, and Ethel Davis, secretary of the Baptists in 1992. It includes references to her father and brothers Austin , Harold, and Bennet. The mention of “Peter” is probably Rev. Peter Baines who was Baptist minister in 1992.
The letter also refers to a letter to Mr Wood from Mr Spurgeon who ran a college in Balham (SW London) dated 1879, a copy of which forms part of this bundle.
There is also a copy of a drawing of the house called Grandfathers with a poem or hymn beneath it and signed “Arthur W. Wood.19th Sept. 1900”. Grandfathers in Rookery Lane was the birthplace of Anne Steele 1717-1768, the Baptist Hymn writer and poet.
